Australian Disaster Resilience Conference 2026

About the Australian Disaster Resilience Conference
ADRC26 is for people who live, work, study and/or volunteer with or for communities, and who are dedicated to building community resilience and reducing disaster risk. ADRC provides a program of presentations and panel discussions, networking and professional development opportunities, and access to the AFAC26 powered by INTERSCHUTZ Exhibition Hall, which includes Resilience Lane and AIDR's Knowledge Centre.
What can I expect at ADRC26?
ADRC26 is a smaller conference that runs alongside the much larger AFAC26 powered by INTERSCHUTZ conference, along with a few other smaller conferences, including the Institute for Fire Engineers (IFE) and Women and Firefighting Australia (WAFA). Sharing space and resources helps us all achieve greater efficiency, and encourages collaboration, sharing, and learning across a broader variety of emergency and community sectors.
Delegates are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes. The venue is large and requires a lot of movement between sessions and the Exhibition Hall.
ADRC26, as part of AFAC26, is a large and bustling event. We encourage all delegates to immerse themselves in sharing, connecting, learning and networking. Delegate feedback demonstrates that many productive connections and collaborations are formed during ADRC.
Where do I start?
Delegates are encouraged to view the program (when it is available) and curate their own combination of stream presentations, keynote speakers, and networking events. Delegates are welcome to take time out to balance the conference busy-ness. There are river walks and cafes nearby, as well as a Sunflower Room at the MCEC available for people seeking a calm space to relax.
Connect with AIDR at the Knowledge Centre in the Exhibition Hall
ADRC is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy in-person conversations with delegates from across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond. Staff will be wearing AIDR branded shirts so please find us and say hello!
AIDR's Knowledge Centre features:
- AIDR stand - Visit the AIDR stand and talk with staff and other delegates. You are welcome to, bring your coffee or lunch have a seat, and enjoy a rest from the busy-ness of conference
- Poster exhibition - the poster display will be near the AIDR stand. Make sure you take time to browse the extensive range of posters. You are welcome to cast your vote for the People's Choice Award in your conference app
Mindset matters: Practical pathways to equitable resilience
Resilience starts with how we think - our mindset shapes the choices we make as individuals, communities, and organisations. Disasters are not simply the result of natural events; they occur when hazards intersect with people and places. The ways we live, build, and prepare can turn hazards into disasters, or help us avoid them. Shifting our mindset from inevitability to responsibility is the first step in reducing risk and building just resilience.
At ADRC26, we invite you to reimagine resilience through both mindset and action. This year’s theme is about looking ahead, challenging us to move beyond focusing only on hazards, and instead examine the deeper, systemic causes of risk, such as inequity, exclusion, and the far-reaching impacts of our decisions in an increasingly uncertain world.
We welcome everyone: community groups, volunteers, academics, emergency management professionals, governments, and those from health, education, business, and creative sectors to question assumptions, share new perspectives, and challenge the status quo in our practices and organisations. The conference is shaped by the experiences and insights of the diversity of our population. By centring a diversity of lived experiences, we aim to co-create pathways that are inclusive, equitable, and transformative for all.
Together we’ll explore:
- What mindsets do we need across policy, practice, and partnerships to lead with empathy, equity, and courage?
- What does it mean to truly centre communities in resilience planning?
- How can we shift from reactive responses to proactive, collaborative strategies?
This is not just a theoretical conversation. We seek real-world examples and rigorous research that demonstrate mindset shifts in action: policies co-designed with communities, partnerships that share power, and programs that embed wellbeing and justice. Bring your case studies, tools, and honest lessons so others can learn and adapt.
Let’s question, share, and co-create futures, and a mindset, where resilience is inclusive, connected, and transformative.

Resilience Lane
Resilience Lane provides a space for people and community organisations to connect and form collaborative partnerships that build resilience and strengthen communities. Resilience Lane will be located in the AFAC26 powered by INTERSCHUTZ Exhibition Hall, and provides a dedicated place for community-focused groups and organisations that work with communities to build resilience and reduce disaster risk. Many creative collaborations spring to life in Resilience Lane.
Resilience Lane is a place where exhibitors and delegates engage with each other and share knowledge and projects. In follow up survey discussions with AIDR, many exhibitors said they shared ideas, contact details and had planned follow up meetings with new contacts to explore future collaborations. As people who are familiar with AIDR know, the practice of connecting different sectors, knowledge, and systems is what we do, so feedback like this is music to our ears.
AIDR would like to thank NRMA | A Help Company for their sponsorship of Resilience Lane in 2025, and since its inception in 2023.
Expressions of Interest to participate in Resilience Lane at ADRC26 will open in early 2026.
Look for information in Updates from AIDR. If you are not yet on AIDR's mailing list, please join to receive our newsletters and announcements.
