AIDR partners with Gender and Disaster Australia

AIDR is pleased to announce a new partnership with Gender and Disaster Australia, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the Australian Disaster Resilience Conference 2026 in August. The partnership will strengthen collaboration to advance gender equity in disaster risk reduction, resilience, and recovery.

John Richardson, Executive Director at AIDR, says: 'AIDR has enjoyed a long working relationship with Gender and Disaster Australia as they have lifted the lid on an extremely important and confronting topic in disasters.

'I am pleased to be able to strengthen this relationship, so that we work together to remove the harm that is gender-based violence from the impacts of disasters. This work only becomes more important in an increasingly volatile world.'

Gender plays an important role in shaping disaster experiences and outcomes. Through this partnership, AIDR and Gender and Disaster Australia will work together to share knowledge, support research, collaborate on events and learning opportunities, and amplify evidence-informed approaches that help reduce gendered harm before, during, and after disasters.

Together, we'll explore opportunities to share knowledge, support learning, and contribute to more inclusive disaster policy and practice.
