AIDR's new Education for Young People Program team

AIDR would like to introduce Brett Michie and Ella Wilkinson to the Education for Young People Program and thank Owen Ziebell for all his incredible work over the past two years.

Brett is an experienced education professional, with proven leadership experience across a wide variety of sectors and community organisations. Brett has worked as a teacher and facilitator of experiential, residential and leadership education for over 30 years. He is actively involved as a (current) volunteer firefighter and former employee of the Country Fire Authority in Victoria and has held numerous leadership positions within the organisation including Captain, Deputy Group Officer, and Learning practice consultant. Within AIDR, Brett’s role is to help develop and promote resilience and disaster risk reduction education across Australian communities with a particular focus on educating children and young people in preparedness, response, and recovery to disasters.

Ella Wilkinson has been a Project Officer here at AIDR since 2019 managing and supporting the development of the Australian Disaster Resilience Handbook Collection. Through this role Ella managed the Disaster Resilience Education for Young People Handbook where she learned of the importance of providing young people with knowledge skills and opportunities, and the incredible capability and capacity of young people to learn and teach others how to build their own disaster resilience. When they are not in the office, Ella is out with her little dog Theo, away camping or in the yoga studio. Ella is also currently finishing their Master of Environment and previously undertaken an internship at the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva as a Content Editor for PreventionWeb.net.
