AJEM recognised at EMPA Awards for excellence in emergency communication

The Australian Journal of Emergency Management (AJEM) has been recognised at the 2026 Emergency Media and Public Affairs (EMPA) Conference, receiving a Highly Commended award in the Research category at the awards dinner on 27 May.

The EMPA Awards for Excellence in Emergency Communication celebrate outstanding work across Australia and New Zealand, and highlight the role of clear, effective communication before, during and after emergencies. The awards aim to set benchmarks, recognise best practice, and support a strong community of practice among emergency communicators.

Entries in the Research category are assessed on the strength of the research question, methodology and ethics, collaboration, and the extent to which findings are communicated in plain English and able to inform practice.

This recognition acknowledges AJEM’s ongoing contribution to connecting research with policy and practice, and supporting evidence-informed decision-making across the emergency management sector.

Congratulations to AIDR team and the AJEM Committee on this achievement.
