Working Group – Reviewing the Community Recovery Handbook

The Community Recovery Handbook (2018) is now due for review. This Handbook is part of the Australian Disaster Resilience Handbook Collection and is a guide to nationally consistent principles and good practices in community recovery.

The Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR) is seeking expressions of interest from those with experience and expertise in community recovery (social, economic, built and/or natural) to participate in the review of the Community Recovery Handbook (2018) as a member of the working group.

The role of the working group is to share expertise, review drafts (approx. 3-4 over the review period), identify case studies, and come to a consensus on the content, principles and practices included in the handbook.

The disaster recovery, resilience and risk reduction landscape has evolved in policy and practice since 2018. The aim is to ensure the updated handbook includes the latest research and practice and takes a systemic approach. It is intended to guide and assist all organisations that work with communities before, during, and after a disaster, including government departments, emergency management agencies, NGOs, community groups, education, health and social work sectors, land management agencies and the private sector.

We anticipate the review process will be completed in mid-2026.

Participation in the working group is in a voluntary capacity. If you require support to participate in the working group, please contact Dr Isabel Cornes – A/g Manager Knowledge Development.

Please submit your expression of interest, outlining your relevant expertise to Isabel Cornes isabel.cornes@aidr.org.au.

For those representing your organisation, please also include a brief notice of support from a relevant individual in your organisation.
