Expressions of Interest: Lessons Management Handbook review group

AIDR is seeking Expressions of Interest from those experienced with lessons management to participate in the review of the Lessons Management Handbook (2019) as a member of the working group.

The Lessons Management Handbook (2019) will be reviewed and updated in 2026. This Handbook is part of the Australian Disaster Resilience Handbook Collection and provides a national reference, principles, and guidance for the practice of managing lessons. The handbook is primarily aimed at the emergency management sector, although the principles and processes can be used by any sector or organisation.

The role of the working group is to share expertise, review drafts (approximately 3-4 over the review period), identify case studies, and come to a consensus on the content, principles, and guidance included in the handbook.

The aim of the review is to update the handbook to incorporate new and growing knowledge and experience in lessons management and continuous improvement as well as up-to-date case studies and examples. The review will include developing stronger guidance in areas such as:

  • implementing lessons (moving from lessons identified to lessons learned)
  • sharing lessons across jurisdictions and organisations
  • applying lessons management across the emergency management continuum.

We anticipate threview process will be completed in late 2026.

Participation in the working group is in a voluntary capacity. If you require support to participate in the working group, please contact Dr Blythe McLennan – Manager Knowledge Development at AIDR

Please submit your expression of interest via email, outlining your relevant expertise (up to 200 words) to Blythe McLennan at blythe.mclennan@aidr.org.au
