New Senior Project Officer, Education and Engagement

AIDR would like to introduce new staff member Owen Ziebell, who will be leading the Education for Young People Program and helping progress the efforts of DRANSZEN members.

I am excited to start working with the DRANZSEN members and continuing to build on the amazing work of Brigid Little and the wider member base.

As a former teacher and police officer, I have experience in the education system as well as the emergency services. I have worked across independent and government schools in metropolitan and rural Victoria, teaching across Prep to Year 12.

I have always been passionate about supporting mental health and student wellbeing; being involved in student wellbeing leadership positions, taught in fire affected communities, and most recently in the collaborative development of a holistic mentoring program for a cohort of 500 year 9 and 10 students. My experience with Victoria Police has developed my understanding of the dynamic nature of emergency situations and disasters and importance of preparation, support networks, and community engagement to develop resilience.

When not in the office you’ll find me working on the family farm in central Victoria with my partner Sophie and dog Billie, playing hockey, out for a long run or in the shed woodworking.
