Online Meteorology for Disaster Managers Masterclass a success

The online version of Meteorology for Disaster Managers Masterclass proved to be very popular, selling out on the same day that it was first announced.

AIDR and the Bureau of Meteorology were very pleased to bring the Meteorology for Disaster Managers Masterclass online for the first time on 18 and 19 May. The online version of this masterclass proved to be very popular, selling out on the same day that it was first announced.

The online class was hosted over two half-days, from 8.30am–1pm. This allowed course participants to avoid the fatigue that is sometimes associated with extended online videoconferencing and similar activities, have an afternoon between sessions to further absorb the material and consider any questions they may have, as well as attend to other work matters.

The online masterclass is delivered via a special plugin to Moodle, the Bureau’s online learning platform. This online learning platform has always been home to learning resources for masterclass participants doing face-to-face learning, such as coursebooks, slides and handouts. The upgrade now means that it can also become a virtual classroom, where participants join a small group interactive online learning environment.

Given the success of this online masterclass, AIDR plans to host further sessions in the coming months. Priority for spaces will be given to people who joined the expression of interest register after the first event quickly sold out. If you would like to join the expression of interest register to be given an early chance to register before the masterclass is publicly advertised, please email events@aidr.org.au.

The masterclass can also be delivered online directly to organisations and agencies. Contact the AIDR events team to discuss.
