Webinar series focuses on why recovery matters

AIDR is hosting a new series of interactive webinars to shine a light on recovery in the wake of Australia’s catastrophic bushfire season.

The first webinar will take place at 2pm AEDT on 16 March – focusing on the topic: what is recovery?

John Richardson, from Australian Red Cross and Kirsten Jenkins from the Maroondah City Council in Victoria will share their perspectives on effective disaster recovery and other strategies to support positive recovery connections.

AIDR Executive Director Amanda Leck will host the first webinar, which will equip attendees with basics of community recovery; navigating the recovery process; self-care techniques and allow opportunities to ask questions.

The hour-long Recovery Matters webinars are designed to assist newly appointed recovery workers to learn from experts as they enhance their skills and knowledge in good practice recovery.

They also provide more experienced recovery workers with an opportunity to refresh and reflect on their practice during the current circumstances.

Over 17 million hectares were burnt by bushfires from August 2019 to February 2020, with many communities now embarking on a journey of recovery for the first time.

Attendees taking part in the first webinar will have the opportunity to discuss the direction of future webinars.
